£25.00

Single fired stoneware beaker in rich brown and blues. This design is inspired by wild swimming and kayaking around the tree-lined muddy creeks of the Helford River, a magical estuary on the Lizard peninsular in Cornwall.

Description

A natural feeling handmade beaker in a rich honey brown and blue/grey/green glaze. The glaze is fluid and variable and may have slipped off in places to reveal toasted clay underneath. The blue is satin matt while the brown is a glossy and smooth with flecks of gold.

Perfect for a water, wine, G&T, hot chocolate or coffee.

These beaker are made of a white stoneware clay which is visible on and around the base.

Thrown by me on my kick-wheel  and single fired to save energy.

Roughly 9.5 cm tall, 7-7.5 cm diameter.

Please note all of my work is handmade and there will be slight variations in size, shapes, glaze colour and patterns but all within a theme. I encourage the slight unpredictability and fluctuations and delight in mismatched sets. Each piece is unique.

“When the east wind blows up Helford river the shining waters become troubled and disturbed and the little waves beat angrily upon the sandy shores. The short seas break above the bar at ebb-tide, and the waders fly inland to the mud-flats, their wings skimming the surface, and calling to one another as they go. Only the gulls remain, wheeling and crying above the foam, diving now and again in search of food, their grey feathers glistening with the salt spray.” – Daphne du Maurier, Frenchmans Creek
